
American Music and Society



Students will learn how the evolution of music in America has reflected changing social values
that were a result of historical events and political movements. Students will have the
opportunity to appreciate the music of some outstanding musicians.
Activities: Through readings and discussions students will analyze different music genres and
their cultural influence along with those historic/political/technological facts that had an impact
on them. Students will also watch clips and listen to different pieces of music to better
understand how music and society evolved together.
Attendance: 1h a week
Age – high schoolers/young adults/adults
Level – upper intermediate/advanced
Number of students per class = min. 4; max 6
Enrollment throughout June-July-August
